The library collections include monographs (about 30 000 books), French and foreign magazines (600 titles, 250 of which are currently running), and a documentary collection.

Monographs main themes are weapons, uniforms, emblems and decorations. Works dedicated to Napoléon I, to the Hôtel des Invalides and to military music can be added, as well as works about military rules and regulations, campaigns and regiments history, biographies and memoirs , and a small collection for history and art history.

Periodicals consist in weapons, uniforms, and military history reviews, as well as magazines with a small publication by museums, civilian and military associations, and scholarly societies.
The documentary collection is made of more than 1 000 archives boxes, classified according to 5 great themes : Equipment (weapons, artillery, vehicles, furniture), Troops (classified by arms or arms subdivisions), History, Fine Arts, Biographies.
The Hotel National des Invalides Archives are being kept in the Service Historique de l'Armée de Terre (or Army Historical Service) in Vincennes. (tel : 33 (0)1 41 93 20 35)
